I **don’t know which “Cheung Fat Restaurant” you mean**, because there are several Hong Kong restaurants with that name in different districts. The results point to at least **Wong Tai Sin**, **Tsing Yi**, **Sham Shui Po**, **Jordan**, **Quarry Bay**, and **Kowloon City**, and they serve different cuisines.[1][2][3][4][10][11] If you mean **Cheung Fat Restaurant (Tsing Yi)**, OpenRice describes it as a **traditional Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng** serving dishes like salt-baked chicken, satay beef bun, chicken-and-shredded-meat fried rice, and curry brisket rice.[2] Its listed neighborhood is **Tsing Yi**, at **Maritime Square / Cheung Fat area** in the New Territories.[2] The result shown does **not** state whether it takes reservations.[2] If you mean **Cheung Fat in Wong Tai Sin**, it is listed as a **Hong Kong-style hot pot / stir-fry / dai pai dong** place near **Wong Tai Sin MTR Station**.[1] That listing also does **not** indicate reservations.[1] If you want, I can identify the exact branch and tell you the cuisine, neighborhood, and reservation policy for that specific location.
Here’s a subjective ranking of **5 classic Hong Kong-style restaurants (茶餐廳 / local Cantonese eateries)**: 1. **Kam Fung Café (金鳳茶餐廳)** — Famous for pineapple buns with butter and traditional milk tea; Wan Chai. 2. **Lan Fong Yuen (蘭芳園)** — Credited with popularizing “silk-stocking” milk tea and pork chop buns; Central and Tsim Sha Tsui. 3. **Australia Dairy Company (澳洲牛奶公司)** — Known for scrambled eggs, toast, steamed milk pudding, and extremely fast service; Jordan. 4. **Sing Heung Yuen (勝香園)** — A classic open-air dai pai dong serving tomato soup noodles and crispy-bottom buns; Central. 5. **Tai Ping Koon Restaurant (太平館餐廳)** — Historic Western-influenced Hong Kong cuisine, especially soufflé, Swiss sauce chicken wings, and baked dishes; multiple locations.
Kam Kee Cafe Honolulu Coffee Shop Tung Po Kitchen Yee Shun Dairy Company Luen Kee Dim Sum
1. **The Chairman (Central)** — Acclaimed for refined Cantonese cooking built around exceptional local ingredients and traditional flavors. 2. **Duddell’s (Central)** — A stylish setting for sophisticated dim sum and modern Cantonese dishes, ideal for a celebratory meal. 3. **Spring Moon at The Peninsula (Tsim Sha Tsui)** — Grand, classic Cantonese dining with elegant service and excellent dim sum. 4. **Luk Yu Tea House (Central)** — A historic Hong Kong institution offering old-school Cantonese dishes in a richly atmospheric setting. 5. **Ho Lee Fook (SoHo)** — Fun, lively, modern Chinese food with bold Hong Kong-inspired flavors and shareable plates.
When people talk about quintessential "Hong Kong-style" dining, they are usually referring to **Cha Chaan Tengs (tea restaurants)** and traditional **Bing Sutts (ice rooms)**. Here is a ranked list of the 5 best Hong Kong-style restaurants in the city, balancing food quality, historical significance, and classic atmosphere: ### **1. Australia Dairy Company (澳洲牛奶公司)** * **Location:** Jordan, Kowloon * **Why it’s the best:** This is the undisputed king of Cha Chaan Tengs. It is world-famous for two things: the fluffiest, richest scrambled eggs on earth, and aggressively efficient, no-nonsense service (ordering, eating, and paying often takes under 15 minutes). It is the ultimate high-octane Hong Kong dining experience. * **Must-try:** Scrambled eggs on thick toast, macaroni with ham in chicken broth, and steamed milk pudding. ### **2. Lan Fong Yuen (蘭芳園)** * **Location:** Central (Original Gage Street branch) * **Why it’s iconic:** Lan Fong Yuen is credited with inventing Hong Kong-style "Silk Stocking Milk Tea" back in 1952 (named for the tea sack filter that resembles a silk stocking). Starting as a humble *dai pai dong* (open-air food stall), the original Central location still maintains its vintage street-front stall. * **Must-try:** Traditional hot/iced milk tea, Hong Kong-style French toast (deep-fried and served with a slab of butter and syrup), and scallion oil chicken noodles. ### **3. Kam Wah Cafe & Bakery (金華冰廳)** * **Location:** Prince Edward, Kowloon * **Why it’s iconic:** Kam Wah holds the crown for Hong Kong’s best *Bo Lo Yau* (Pineapple Bun with Butter). Served fresh out of the oven every few minutes, the bun has an ultra-crispy, sugary crust that contrasts perfectly with the thick, cold slab of butter melting inside. * **Must-try:** Fresh pineapple bun with butter, egg tarts, and iced milk tea. ### **4. Mido Cafe (美都餐室)** * **Location:** Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon * **Why it’s iconic:** Operating since 1950, Mido Cafe feels like stepping onto a Wong Kar-wai film set. While the food is simple comfort fare, its preserved 1950s interior—complete with green window frames, mosaic tiles, and booth seating overlooking the historic Tin Hau Temple—makes it the most atmospheric vintage *Bing Sutt* in the city. * **Must-try:** Baked pork chop rice with tomato sauce, Hong Kong-style French toast, and red bean ice. ### **5. Wah Sing Ice Room (華星冰室)** * **Location:** Wan Chai (branches in Mong Kok and Tai Po) * **Why it’s iconic:** Founded by former insiders of the Hong Kong music industry, Wah Sing is famously frequented by local celebrities and Cantopop stars. Their scrambled eggs rival Australia Dairy Company’s (they exclusively use Hokkaido milk), but they offer a slightly more relaxed pace and modern setting. * **Must-try:** Black truffle scrambled eggs on toast, "Devil's" crispy pork chop bun, and milk tea.

# Top 5 Hong Kong-Style Restaurants in Hong Kong I should note that restaurant rankings change frequently, and I can't verify current operations or quality. Hours, quality, and availability can shift. Ask locals for current recommendations too—they'll have the most up-to-date insights on what's worth visiting right now.
I appreciate the question, but I should be honest: I don't have reliable real-time information about which Hong Kong-style restaurants are currently open in North Point. Restaurant locations and status change frequently, and my knowledge has a cutoff date. For current, accurate recommendations, I'd suggest: - Checking Google Maps or OpenRice (a popular HK restaurant platform) with North Point as the location - Asking locals or your hotel concierge - Looking at recent reviews on TripAdvisor This will give you up-to-date information on what's actually open tonight.

Ranking Hong Kong-style (cha chaan teng) restaurants is highly subjective, as locals often have fierce loyalty to neighborhood spots they’ve frequented for decades, and "best" depends on whether you prioritize classic recipes, value, or iconic signature dishes. That said, the below ranked list reflects a mix of critical acclaim, local consensus, cultural legacy, and accessible quality for both visitors and regulars: 1. **Australia Dairy Company (澳洲牛奶公司)** The gold standard for traditional Hong Kong-style breakfast and tea sets, located in Jordan. Its legendary scrambled eggs—silky, custardy, and cooked to precise doneness with just the right amount of butter—are widely considered the best in the city. It is also famous for its steamed milk pudding (both regular and ginger-flavored) and crispy buttered toast. The no-frills, fast-paced service (staff are famously efficient, if brusque) is part of the authentic cha chaan teng experience, and lines move quickly despite constant crowds. 2. **Mido Café (美都餐室)** A 70+ year-old institution in Yau Ma Tei, Mido is beloved for preserving mid-20th century Hong Kong charm, from its tiled walls and ceiling fans to its classic wooden booths. It is famous for its baked pork chop rice (with a crispy cheese crust and tender marinated pork) and pineapple buns with butter, as well as its retro milk tea. Unlike many modernized spots, it has retained its original menu and ambiance, making it a cultural landmark as much as a restaurant. 3. **Capital Café (華星冰室)** Originating in Wan Chai, Capital Café is a relatively newer spot (opened in the 2000s) that has earned a cult following for perfecting classic dishes with high-quality ingredients. Its signature scrambled egg sandwich (using free-range eggs for extra richness) and baked macaroni with ham are top-tier, and its milk tea is brewed to a smooth, balanced strength. It is also a favorite among local celebrities, adding to its reputation, and its portions are generous for the price. 4. **Lan Fong Yuen (蘭芳園)** A Central institution founded in 1952, Lan Fong Yuen is credited with inventing Hong Kong-style silk-stocking milk tea (strained through a cloth filter for a silky texture), which remains its most iconic offering. It is also famous for its crispy pineapple buns and instant noodles with spam and eggs, a staple Hong Kong comfort food. The original street stall location has a gritty, nostalgic vibe, and it has expanded to a few sit-down locations while retaining its classic recipes. 5. **Tsui Wah Restaurant (翠華餐廳)** One of the most well-known chain cha chaan tengs, Tsui Wah earns a spot for its consistent quality, wide menu, and accessibility (it has locations across Hong Kong, many open 24/7). Its signature dishes include fish ball noodles, curry beef brisket, and its famous milk tea, and it is a go-to spot for late-night meals, casual lunches, and quick snacks. While it lacks the niche charm of smaller neighborhood spots, it reliably delivers the full range of Hong Kong-style flavors and is a reliable pick for first-time visitors.
